Court-Woodlawn Community Meeting
Tuesday, August 20th @ 6:30 PM @
McChesney Community Center
Grant Blvd. (next to Grant Middle School)

Patch ‘n Paint Project in Court-Woodlawn
Are the houses on your street doing okay?  Could some of them use a bit of attention?  Do you need a little revitalizing on your home?
Come to our next meeting to discuss our Patch ‘n Paint Project, which covers block by block revitalization in the Court-Woodlawn neighborhood. We come to your street, we patch your front steps, we paint your porch, we create a garden for you, we weed an existing garden, we seal your driveway, etc.
By now, you get it.  We want to help homeowners and landlords towards block revitalization throughout our entire area.
You can be part of this.
Come to the meeting and help us choose which blocks to work on.
  Photos/notes of meeting:

  • Discussion on maintenance for Court-Woodlawn Gateway Garden: decide on members who will maintain the garden throughout its growing season, i.e. two people, one weekend per month.
  • Discussion on Tree sculptures:  Art Director Kate Auwaerter and Parks Dept. Commissioner Baye were contacted to discuss the possibility of creating a city-wide program whereby trees needing to be taken down have a sizable amount of its trunk left with roots still in ground, so that a sculpture may be created in place; thereby developing a work of art.  Meeting has been requested.

Our latest meeting was October 9th (2012).  We discussed the success of our graffiti clean-up; informing people in the Court-Woodlawn neighborhood about the 1% loan available through Home Headquarters; and our concern over the Butternut Circle Garden.  Lisa volunteered to approach the businesses around the garden to see if they would like to offer funding to professionally maintain the space.  It is a focal point of our community, and we would very much like to see it looking its best.

Hello, All
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 13th @ 6:30PM @ Enable 1603 Court St..
Stephen Harris, City/County Arborist will speak at our meeting about planting trees, what kind of trees they have, who wants the trees, the areas where the trees can be planted. Please come with your questions/comments/suggestions. Invite your neighbors.
An equally important component of this meeting will be that Stephanie Button Director of Site Operation for PACE will attend to discuss Court-Woodlawn's project of revitalizing our neighborhoods via our elderly and disabled, who could use a little help. We will also be contacting Enable towards this purpose.
This is a start, but by no means the be all and end all of what we will try to accomplish as a group in maintaining our area.
The housing component is an important one; and one we can do something about. We all know that one of the key ways in protecting our community is to keep a strong housing stock, meaning that if houses are in good repair it keeps our property values up, keeps the good guys moving into our area up - we are rich in diversity, and keeps the crime levels down. We are lucky that right now our area is still in pretty good shape. But the key to keeping it that way is to look at that one house on the block that could use a nip/tuck; and work on fixing that.
Your input on this is extremely important.
If there is a house on your block that needs work, come and discuss it.
Court-Woodlawn is now in a position to requests grants through Enable's willingness to include us in on their 501c3 - Thank you, Enable.
We can get our ducks in a row this Fall/Winter with a definite plan of action for the Spring.
Look forward to seeing you all the 13th with your suggestions.
